I'm quite happy where I am at the moment. I'll try to ignore the little MC Clique, the jury's still out on the screen-writing at the moment. It's a struggle to take advice from a group of people who worship the man that wrote 'Stop or my Mom will shoot'. Members of said clique are accusing me of plagiarism. The accusation is quite laughable, I think the basis for the accusation is that clones as subject matter is exclusive to one Michael Coleman. The accusation is nothing short of bizarre if you consider I haven't read his script.
It's quite simple, I've said so much about style, I am developing my own style which Fibonacci's Child demonstrates.
Credibility is important to me, this leads to a huge back-story (20-25%) of the work. I've taken to formatting the back-story as a standalone story, a built in prequel so to speak. As with Absolution, I concentrate on the character I am about to kill-off. Their death initialising the main story.
As is my current mood, all my recent work deals with the breakdown of society or the end of mankind.
I've said before I like deception, named Fibonacci's Child the story opens with a scene focusing on a child, said child has nothing to do with the story.
Another way? The classic reason for cloning a child would be parents not being able to cope with loss. Again, I feel the need to differ, keeping it credible and better if possible. What could possibly be closer than the bond between mother and child? The bond between identical twins perhaps. This also gives me the opportunity to demonstrate identical twins (nature's own clones) cannot be manufactured by man.
Research? The birth of identical twins of differing sexes has been recorded four times in history. This occurs when a chromosome s lost, the girl is usually unhealthy and the situation can only come from an embryo originally male. To get the cloning of a girl twin to produce a hermaphrodite requires an extra chromosome. As this situation has never occurred it does give be licence to produce the unique child.
Let's look into the child in detail. Named Elizabeth (the most recognised name of a queen on this planet) she will later be the queen of a new society. Born on a Wednesday (Wednesday's child is full of woe.) As a child she overly content and seemingly self-absorbed, referred to as 'at one with herself'. This makes sense when it's revealed she's both male and female, two people, if you like.
Even the title! Fibonacci's Child, taken from the Fibonacci Sequence, sounds Italian and numerical don't you think? The da Vinci Code – doesn't that sound similar? Even the title goes some way to revealing the plot. To a layman the Fibonacci Sequence is a series of number starting with 0 that get's bigger and bigger until it becomes unmanageable. - Well that's pretty much what happens! A woman loses her twin and feels she has nothing, over time things get out of hand.
As for plagiarism? I'm really not comfortable with the scene where the boyfriend is caught naked in bed with the child. It's very similar to a film called 'The Good Mother'.
So that's an insight in to how I write and where it comes from, and it's certainly not Mr Coleman!
