The monsoon comes early, there are seismic tremors, union strikes. Every other day brings a new delay. The story (as told by a care worker to two children) about their deceased mother (Virginia) and their father John (a bit of a player) and how they used to keep company at the Embassy Social Club, with a circle of friends including Jack (Daniels), Benson, Hedges, Stella etc. Virginia died when the club caught fire (too busy socialising to check the smoke alarm battery) – She died of smoke inhalation. John got heavily involved with Stella. He spent all his time with her. The relationship cost him his job, but she deserted him the moment his cash was gone.
