Alex was always humble in victory. After every case he'd congratulate her on being a fine and worthy opponent. Fine and worthy, great and worthy, which one was it?

“You tell me,” he asked, a faint squint appearing on his face.

“You just want your war! Right, daddy? Alex isn't your great and worthy opponent. I'm not your happy thought. I don't even like you!” Her chuckle ceased, then was reincarnated as a fully matured laugh. “For reasons of good form, I suggest you cancel the war.” Abruptly the laughing stopped. “You've bitten off far more than you can chew,” she warned him. Her father looked over with his dead eyes.

“You've lost your marbles.” he replied glibly.
